The Facts about Depression

Depression is darkness within our society. Thankfully, most people will not develop or live with depression. However, the numbers of people who do suffer depression are quite high. It is estimated that total of 20% of a population will suffer from depression. To put that into perspective, a total of 1 in 5 people, will suffer depression.

Depression is something that can either not be cured, or, it can be cured. It depends on whether or not the depression is hereditary. By that we mean that depression cannot be cured if your depression is from your genes. Whereas, if your depression is from your environment, then there is a much better chance that it can be cured. Our environment can influence whether or not we have depression. A bad environment will lead to bad mental health. And a good environment will lead to good mental health.

Who gets depressed?

The pharmacy online suggest that there are several types of people who are most likely to get depression. These are the types of people who are most likely to get depression:

  • Almost anyone can suffer depression. And at anytime
  • Women are twice as likely to suffer from depression
  • Those who have bi-polar are more likely to get depression

If you fall into any of these categories, then you can try and avoid an onset of depression. The way that you can avoid an onset of depression later in life is to look after yourself. Take exercise. Sleep well. And look after both your mental health and physical health. If you do all of these things, then you are much more likely to avoid getting depression.

These are just some of the types of people who are most likely to be affected by depression; here are some reasons why depression happens. The first one we don’t know the answer to.

Simply put, why people develop depression largely remains a mystery to scientists. There is not a clear reason why depression happens. Scientists are still trying to work out the main reason.

The fist known reason for depression is; that we develop depression from our genes. Our genes are the things that we are born with. If we develop depression through our genes, then it becomes much harder or impossible to eradicate the depression.

The second reason that a person can develop depression is through life events. Different life events can trigger depression. These life events can be anything from; the break-up of a relationship, to losing a job, or even bereavement. It is the big things in life that are most likely to cause depression. Therefore, when you are going through a major even in life, then you will need to take extra special care of yourself. Look after yourself.

A third and last reason for depression being triggered in a human being is that the depression can come from another illness. Those with another illness are much more likely to develop depression, than those without another illness. This can come down to either a person who has a physical illness, or a mental health illness. Both people with a physical illnesses and mental illnesses are more at risk from developing depression.

There are many noticeable symptoms of depression in a person. There are a few obvious symptoms of depression, while there are other symptoms which are not obvious. Here are the symptoms of depression which are obvious: feeling low, feeling stress and feeling tired all of the time and losing interest in everyday activities. If you feel a combination of these things, then you are most likely depressed.

Not all of the signs of depression are obvious though; there are many symptoms of depression which you can avoid to pick up. These are some of the symptoms of depression which are less obvious: feeling irritable, feeling it difficult to concentrate, having a poor appetite (refusing to eat or sleep well), weight loss, avoiding other people and finding it hard to make decisions.

The symptoms of depression are the key to getting a diagnosis. There can only be a diagnosis through the symptoms of depression.
